Forestry Professionals Gather in Crieff for Fencing Demonstration Day with Tornado Wire

Tornado Wire, the UK’s leading fencing specialists, recently hosted a well-attended open day at its Crieff facility, welcoming managers from Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) for an in-depth exploration of high-tensile wire fencing solutions.

The event, held on 1 July 2025, brought together forest managers from across Scotland to share knowledge, experience and best practice in modern agricultural fencing and deer fence applications. The training day showcased both traditional skills and Tornado’s latest innovations in the field.

The day began with a warm welcome from the Tornado team, complete with tea, coffee and a safety briefing. Douglas Burns, Technical Sales at Tornado Wire, led the day, supported by colleagues in Crieff and trusted local contractors Drummond Fencing. Matt and Charlie from Drummond delivered live demonstrations, which covered a wide range of essential techniques including the erection of stock netting, conversion to two-piece deer netting, and rabbit netting clipping and pegging.

Afternoon demonstrations highlighted the versatility of the Clipex and Pro-Strain systems, and included the debut of Tornado’s latest development—the Pro-Strain i-Post. The session also featured demonstrations of badger gates and bird deflectors, further underlining Tornado’s commitment to practical, wildlife-conscious fencing solutions.

M&M Timber contributed to the day with a remote presentation, followed by a demonstration of one-piece deer fencing, offering further insights into the future of sustainable forestry infrastructure.

Attendees remained highly engaged throughout the event, asking informed questions and sharing practical knowledge from their roles in the field. A sociable lunch break gave participants the chance to network and reflect on the morning’s demonstrations, reinforcing Tornado’s focus on collaborative learning.

Nick Hill, Technical Trainer at Forestry and Land Scotland, praised the day: “Foresters are the ultimate generalists. We have to know about everything from soil and trees, to wildlife, to machinery and fencing. To have this support is a unique opportunity for us. It's brilliant to have the manufacturer and independent contractors giving impartial advice, and sharing specialist knowledge.”

Douglas Burns added: “This was definitely our best open day yet. The team worked hard to set everything up, and the day ran smoothly. The professional contractors did really well. The event was well attended and everyone was engaged and interested.”

The event was a clear demonstration of the power of partnership, with Tornado Wire, Drummond Fencing, FLS and M&M Timber working together to support forestry professionals with the tools and knowledge they need to manage Scotland’s diverse landscapes. As fencing specialists with decades of experience, Tornado Wire remains committed to delivering robust, high-performance solutions for agricultural fencing and beyond.
